My daughter Zoe has always been a crafty gal. She's often rummaging through my (our) craft studio looking for something to make. She's always keen to try new things and find new techniques that challenge her. The other day she wanted to make a skeleton diorama similar to one I had made in one of Tim Holtz's classes that I attended back in 2007. Unfortunately for us, we only had an hour of art time available and the skeleton project is at least 4 hours worth of art time.
So instead, I decided to challenge Zoe to create her own version of Tim's October Tag for 2012. She was all for it! Here's what we created - Zoe's tag is the one on the right, mine is on the left.

Zoe and I had to improvise as we didn't have all of the cool supplies that Tim used in his tag, but making it our own was a good challenge and a lot of fun. Zoe was keen to use her own colours and didn't want to do a Halloween theme as she thinks October is more about 'Spring'. (We're in Australia, so it's springtime here right now). I decided to go with the Halloween theme, mainly because it WAS a challenge for me as I don't have a lot of Halloween supplies.
The first challenge for us was not having Tim's awesome tissue paper. I have had some of it in the past, but must have run out - we couldn't find it anywhere in the studio! So we made our own! Just stamped some text onto white tissue with Jet Black Archival ink. Works a treat and looks amazing. Here's the tissue on our tags. Zoe wanted hers flat while mine is all scrunchy.

Note how neat and tidy our table is? After this step when the paint came out, it was all systems go and no hold barred on the mess!!! We were in our element, trying to follow Tim's steps on my iPhone while being covered in paint and ink.
We LOVED making our own colours of dry glitter:
(I knew all those lids from medicine bottles would come in handy one day!)
While we were creating, Zoe was singing, chatting, singing more, laughing, and yes, singing some more. She was LOVING it. Just watching her stamp, mix glitter ('you only need 7 drops of Alcohol ink Mum!') and put the tag together was amazing. I was so impressed and I'm very proud of her! Here is her completed tag:
