US Paper Crafts Mag Blog

Pc_blog

Recently I was asked by Kelly at Paper Crafts Mag if I could answer a few questions for their 'Designer Spotlight' segment on their blog. Being Australia Day today, they thought it was fitting to highlight  an Aussie designer on Australia Day! So of course I was happy to be a part of it. If you're interested, go check out the Paper Crafts Blog!

And Happy Australia Day!

Banner bright enough for ya?

I thought it was time for a new banner, so went with one of the recent Macro shots. It was looking quite nice while I was working on it.... then I uploaded it to the site.... and checked it out.... and

BAM!

It's bright! And it looks very marmalade! LOL.

Sorry - I don't have time to change it, so for the next few days you'll just have to read my blog with sunglasses on!

Bye! :)

Card Classes and Articles

 Shabbychiccards_2

Here's a look at the Shabby Chic card class that I'll be teaching at Erina Scrapbook Superstore on Feb 6th. It's a technique class using Ranger Adirondack Paint Dabbers, so while you'll have all the supplies to create 6 cards, you may want to use different stamps, different colour combinations etc. I'll have plenty of stamps for us to play with! If you want to create the same cards as mine, you can do that too :)
I love this technique, and I'll be sharing a few other ways to use it in the class (including a look at vintage colours, ideas for scrapbook layouts etc). For details, phone the store on 4365 0770.

In other news.... I have started writing photography articles again for Scrapbooking Memories. The first article is in the current issue Vol 9 No 9. I haven't seen it yet, but I have had a few emails from readers saying they're glad I'm back - so the mag must be out there! And thank you SO much for your emails and feedback. At this stage I'm writing 7 articles which will appear in the mag over the next few months. Hope you enjoy them!

Have a great day!

Mr DS is at Jayne's house!

So Mr DS has moved onto Jayne's house, and she has just uploaded some great cards to her blog. Go check them out here. Soooo funny :)

Macro 366 update

01_10_2008

I've uploaded some more photos to my Macro 366 album. It has been fun looking around for subjects, and while I've always loved flowers and food for my macro photography, I'm trying to incorporate other new things too. I have some ideas of things I need to photograph around the house too, so am looking forward to doing that over the next few days.

A few answers to some questions:

  • I'm shooting with a Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens. This lens has a 1:1 ratio, meaning that I can shoot things life size.
  • This is not a new lens for me. I bought this years ago and have used it extensively already. It is compatible with film cameras and digital cameras (which is why I am still using it.) I first owned it when I used film exclusively, and the Macro lens has stayed with me while I made the transition to digital. There is a new 60mm Macro lens out that is designed specifically for digital SLR's, but I haven't moved over to this one.
  • #8 image was just a plant leaf with a few water droplets on it. I don't know the name of the plant! (I'm not much of a green thumb when it comes to plants.)

If you have any questions about any of the images, please ask! I'm more than happy to share technical details or subject details etc.

Happy Sunday!

Macro 366

01_01_2008
It seems that a lot of people have started 'Photo 365' projects for this year, where they take a photo each day. I've had a 'Photo a Day' album on this blog since I started it, and I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't very good at keeping up with it! I should have re-named it a Photo a Year! I think my problem was I didn't know which photos to upload (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!)

So I have narrowed the playing field, and have started a Macro 366 project (it's a leap year). I plan to pull out the Macro lens every day and photograph something and upload a photo to the Macro 366 album, which is in the sidebar on the left. Whether it's a proper photo shoot, or just a snap, it doesn't matter. Just a little shot a day to share, and perhaps inspire you in some way to get your own camera out!

I know right now that I won't be able to upload photos every single day as there will be times I'll be away from the computer without any internet access.... so on those occasions I'll catch up when I return home.

And if I'm falling behind, you're welcome to remind me to upload some shots! Your feedback and encouragement to continue will do just that - help me continue :)

Here's to looking at the world close up in 2008!

Mr DS is at Sarah's house!

Mrdicksticker
For those of you who are following the whereabouts of Mr DS (the rubber stamp sent to me by my friend Robin)... he has arrived at Sarah Schwerin's house, and boy oh boy she has had some fun playing with him!!!

Go check out her hilarious and fabulous creations at her blog here!

She even pays homage to Tim Holtz...  :)

I'll keep you updated on the travels of  Mr DS as he heads over to Jayne's house next.

Alcohol Ink Storage Tin

Alcoholink_1

A few people have been asking if I've decorated the Tim Holtz storage tins by Cropper Hopper. So I thought I'd share the alcohol ink tin that I have decorated with... well, alcohol inks of course!  I used Denim and Ginger alcohol inks for this tin, using a higher ratio of Ginger ink on the top, and a higher ratio of Denim ink around the sides. (just to keep things a little different). I still used the Alcohol Ink Applicator tool with the felt for the most part, but to get into the little grooves around the edges I took the felt off the applicator and ran it along the edges. (You'll get ink on your hands, so use gloves if you're concerned about that.)

It didn't take up much ink at all, I re-inked my felt probably 5 or 6 times to do the entire tin. I didn't use any Blending Solution either, as the ink was spreading nicely enough without it. I like to keep dabbing away on the tin until I get a 'dotty' effect anyway.

So there you go! Hope you like it!

Welcome 2008!

Nye07_fireworks
(photo above was taken last night during the NYE celebrations on The Entrance Beach).

So who's ready for a new year? I certainly am! I love how new years day brings with it the idea of a new chapter, a new leaf, a new beginning, a clean slate. I love how new years day makes us think of resolutions, to dream and think of what we all want for ourselves, and perhaps make little changes to realise those dreams. Just knowing what you want can be the biggest challenge of all, let alone actioning it. During 2007 I asked myself lots of questions - and had already started implementing a few changes for 2008. Now that 2008 is here, I am so ready for it. Love this journey.

The new year also marks the completion of my Calendar Diary! Here is my last month:
2007calendar_12

I'm planning a new type of calendar diary for 2008, but this time I want to include photos that were taken during that month. So I'd say they'll end up as scrapbook layouts. I have a new product coming out soon that will be very handy for this!
Sale_2
And to continue the celebrations, we're having a massive SALE in the RGP Shop! Everything is 30-75% OFF!  This sale is a little different to our other sales in the past - this time it's a sell out sale - we won't be restocking any of these items again on the RGP website after 31st January, so once they're gone, they're gone! Everything is reduced - Kits, Rubber Stamps, Papers, Greeting Cards, Mounted Prints... and more. Lots of new years goodness!! All the bargains can be found here!

Happy New Year! May it be filled with love, joy, happiness, fun, adventure, challenge, friendship, sunshine, snow, art, music, and laughs. Lots and lots of laughs! :)
