Guest Artist: Louise Nelson Part 4

From Louise: I've never used images of unknown people on my layouts before, so I thought it would be a fun challenge for me to scrap a layout around an image of people who I didn't know!
The images of couples and friends that are included in this Photobooth line are just perfect for mixed media arty projects!
To coordinate the photobooth image with my background scene, I inked the sides of the image with Tea Dye Distress ink. The word strips have been treated with the same mists that I used on the background.

Perfect Day

From Louise: I was a little disappointed that this layout didn't photograph as well as I would have liked as it was one of my favourites. I just loved the Art de Fleur montage as it contained a photo of a Fuchsia.
Both my mother and father enjoyed growing these flowers. I've used the montage flower image as a photo matt as well as a feature element next to the word strip title.

Reflections

From Louise: I just loved the Viva Decor products so much! So much so that I thought I would combine 2 of the products to get both texture and colour.
I first applied the Ferro to get the fabulous gritty texture and then to get the copper colour painted it with the copper precious metal colour paint.
You will notice from one of the close up photos that I have coordinated the word strip to the background by treating it with the same black grey mist.

Life Journey

From Louise: To create the background on this layout I used one of my all time favourite embossing techniques. It is a very random embossing of the textured tissue paper that has been adhered onto the background.
To tie this in with the stamped doorway image, I used the same black embossing powder. This stamp was just perfect for this photo of me outside an old warehouse in the Port Adelaide district.
To complete the title I used both the Alpha and word strips.

Ohh, look at all those textures! Yummy!!

From Louise: From one of the close up photos you can see that I created some subtle visual texture to the layout background, using the Plaid background stamp and Tim Holtz embossing powder.
The word strips provide a perfect description of the sentiment I was feeling when these photos were taken at my Godson's engagement party.

From Louise: Whilst the photo on this layout isn't of good quality, I still love to scrap it over and over as it is one of the very few that I have of my father and I.
To set the scene for the photo, I used the fabulous Viva Ferro steel paint to embellish the chipboard butterflies. Then heavily inked around the edges of the layout with the black soot Distress Ink.
To complete the layout I used simple word strips to describe my feelings about creating this particular layout.

You're Special

From Louise: For this particular layout featuring a photo of myself and my friend Natalie, I've used the beautiful pearlescent Pink Gerbera paper.
I cut out some Gerbera flowers, attached them straight on to the background and then artfully applied distressed gauze on and around the Gerbera images. I used a simple glue stick to adhere both the patterned paper and the gauze.

From Louise: I so loved the words of advice in this stamp, so much so I thought that it would have been the sort of thing I would have loved to have been told as I was growing up!
With that in mind I created a layout using shocking/rude baby photo of myself in the nude on a rug :) :) :) LOL.
To set the scene for the photo and the stamped words I also used the Wilderness photo montage images, which have been inked around the images to make them stand out from the background.
The word strips from the Wilderness and Prague range were a perfect complement to the words of the stamp.

From Louise: I just love love Love stamps that are of flora and fauna, this set including the tress especially is a favourite from the Darkroom Door range.
I've used the stamp to subtle effect on the painted back ground. To highlight the tree stamp image, I've coloured a chipboard tree to coordinate with the stamped image and layered it over top.

Isn't Louise's style just divine! I love all of the texture!

2012 Stamping Cruise sets sail!

Well folks, today is the day we set sail for the 2012 Australian / South Pacific Stamping Cruise! To say we're excited is an understatement!! The past few weeks have been crazy here in the studio and warehouse, packing boxes, ticking things off our packing list, making sure we have everything we need for the workshops. (I always feel like we'll forget something, even though I've gone over things a thousand times!) But now... we're ready to set sail!

The ship will leave Sydney Harbour today and we'll sail for two days before arriving to our first stop at Isle of Pines, New Caledonia. Throughout the cruise I'll be teaching 6 workshops. I know many of you are wondering what I'll be teaching... so I'll share the projects once we return. Our group consists of 50 ladies, plus partners, friends and children. The stampers will also have 24 hour access to the stamping room, so I'm sure there's going to be some fun nights ahead!

As we leave the harbour I'll be updating on Twitter and Facebook, so be sure to follow me there!

I'm really looking forward to spending the next 12 days out at sea... stamping, snorkelling and swimming! Let the journey begin...

Tag Book

Recently Michelle created this amazing tag book using a variety of Darkroom Door stamps and paper goodies...

Here's some details from Michelle:

This is made from my junk collection using the Hotel Keycard Holder and turning it into a mini book for tags.

Making this book was so fast and easy and the finished product looks great. The Keycard Holder can be found at almost any Hotel these days.
 
I simply cut out patterned paper to cover the panels and collage stamped the pieces using Love Birds and Tick Tock with the Onyx and Coffee inkpads. Then I distressed them before sticking them to the Keycard.
 
I used Rock Candy crackle and Kindy Glitz on the flowers, Montage images and Wordstrips.

I stamped the Love Birds onto a loveheart shaped chipboard piece and distressed the edges. I covered it with Distress Glossy Accents and left it to dry overnight.
 
To make the tags, I covered each one with patterned paper and collage stamped them with the Tick Tock and Love Birds rubber stamp sets again. I heat embossed the smaller tags using clear sparkle embossing powder then finished them off by decorating them with ribbon offcuts.

London Accordion Book

We have such a beautiful project to share with you today with lots of photos, so I hope you can take some extra time to check out all the details in this beautiful book by Godelieve using the London Collection rubber stamps:

Notes from Godelieve:

I started this mini album with a blank accordion book from Darkroom Door.  I made a few cuts and folds, so I could create pockets and cut tags from the cut off pieces. The last page has a pocket that can hold a (photo) cd.

After cutting and folding I started stamping.  Most stamping was done with Archival #Coffee, I love the deep brown color.  

I also used the color Saffron (Big Ben) and Vermillion (Double-decker bus).

I machine stitched the pockets and tags.

I sponged with Distress Inks (Old Paper, Weathered Wood and Barn Door)

On the backgrounds I stamped the Stone Background stamp, and I also used a few stamps from other sets: Photography, Prague Vol 1 (words) and Wilderness Vol 2 (explore).

I created two pockets for this page:

Fits a CD perfectly!

After I finished, this is the only left ove rpiece of cardstock from the original accordion book!

English Pub cards by Linda Cain

From Michelle: I masked the background and distressed using Dried Marigold with a blending tool. Then I stamped the balloon with Venetian Orange and finished by stamping the lightbulbs with second generation black. Finished by swiping the edges with the black ink pad and stamping the "Fly" sentiment.

From Michelle: I masked the background and distressed using Peeled Paint & Dried Marigold with a blending tool.
I stamped the background with the compas three times using the Peeled Paint and then randomly stamped a small steampunk element.
Then using black ink I stamped the large compass ensuring to run it off the edge of the ATC.
I finished by stamping "Adventure" on some more patterned paper, distressing and mounting on black card before using foam tape to attach.
