As many of you know, our rubber stamp sets are sold in funky little storage tins. We do this for a number of reasons:
* To keep the whole set together
* Less likely to lose any stamps if you're traveling or even at home!
* Image label is on the front so it's easy to see which set is inside
* It's easy to lay out the tin on your craft table and keep the stamps organised while you create. (in theory! If you're like me, I don't always put them back into the tin straight away, but at least it's easy to put them away when you're finished).
* and it just looks cool!
Now while we have provided you with the initial storage solution for one complete set, what happens when you have lots of Darkroom Door stamps and therefore lots of tins? I asked this question a while ago and several people have been willing to share their storage ideas!
First up, it's good to know that the tins are a similar size to a DVD case, which means you could find some DVD shelving or DVD boxes to store your stamp tins in. This is what Godelieve has done with her sets:
She has all of her tins stacked nicely in a DVD storage unit. I bet some of you have stamp envy right now! Look at all those little babies lined up nice and neatly!! Here's a close up to see how Godelieve has added a sticky label to the side which says the title of the stamp set:
Michelle Loffler likes to keep hers in a box so she can flip through the stamp sets and see the label on the front:
Look at all those sexy stamp sets! Michelle bought the container from Big W. Looks like it fits 26 sets comfortably.
Next up Robyn Wood sent in these photos on how she stores her stamp sets in a similar way to Michelle:
Robyn came up with an idea of attaching a magnetic label to the side so she can read which stamp set is inside. The label sits nicely on the lip of the lid and can be moved if she ever decides to store them a different way. The labels were made by printing out the stamp names, laminating and then attaching to some magnetic tape (found at Officeworks.)
Robyn also stores her Background Stamps the same way. Our Background Stamps and Photo Stamps don't come with the storage tin, but we do sell empty tins for those who would still like to store them this way. You can fit 2 Background Stamps in one tin (or 3 if they're mounted on Thin EZ Mount), or 4 Photo Stamps per tin.
Here's some notes from Robyn on how she stores her Backgrounds:
I usually move these around within the tins as I take them to classes so I stamped up each background, punched a 1” square sample and laminated it. The sample then has a bit of magnetic tape on the back allowing me to put it on the front of the tin. This allows me to easily see what is in each tin.
Shirley Henry has a nifty idea on storing her stamp tins too... she uses a luggage bag!
How cute is that! Here's what it looks like inside:
Shirley says: Besides been neat and tidy, its easy to transport when going to a stamp day/weekend. If I can`t make up my mind which sets I want to use, I just take the lot!
Such a great idea! Shirley has written more about her storage on her blog here.
As for me, I currently store my tins in plastic trays (Bought from Officeworks or Big W). The tray size is A4 and you can fit 4 stamp sets per tray, which means you can fit 20 stamp sets per unit. (4 stamps x 5 drawers). I have the name of the stamp set labelled on the front and also have them in order of code number. I'm used to dealing with all the stamps by number, so I know the order off by heart (usually!) which means I usually know where a stamp set is located.
When I want to use a stamp set, I just pull out the drawer and grab the set I need:
So there's just a few ways you can store your collection of Darkroom Door stamp sets! I hope it's given you a few ideas!! If you've blogged about your own stamp storage, please add a link in the comments section, we'd love to see them!
Thanks again to Godelieve, Michelle, Robyn and Shirley for sharing your storage ideas!! (I'm pretty impressed with your collections of stamps too! Nice work!)
Happy stamping!
