Darkroom Designer: Rachel Greig

Rach Name: Rachel Greig

Zodiac Sign: Aquarius

Lives: Glenning Valley, NSW Australia

Known for: adventure, taking risks, encouraging others to take risks, photography, and having a laugh. Oh, and for designing Darkroom Door product!

Blog, website or gallery: Rachel Greig Photography, Darkroom Door

Loves to: make a mess! And chocolate slice. YUM!

Loves to create: Anything – cards, layouts, books, ATCs etc. I’d love to get into more altered art and jewelry too. My style is anything from simple and quick to more elaborate arty projects.

Favourite Darkroom Door product: No specific favourites, love them all for their own reasons. However, when I discover a new way of using a product that I didn’t think of when I was designing it, I do tend to have a soft spot for that product for a while ☺ I feel like giving it a little gold star!

Have you ever been in a darkroom? Yes, every night when I turn out the lights to go to sleep. ;) But really, yes, much of my life has been spent in darkrooms. I eat my carrots. I see well in the dark.

Let’s say you’re invited to come into our darkroom for a day. What would you bring with you? A very good sense of humour!

Are you afraid of the dark?  Yes, and I still freak myself out when I’m in the darkroom (honest!) If I need to take the rubbish bins out when it’s dark, I think about what could jump out from the trees beside our house. My imagination gets the better of me sometimes.

How did Darkroom Door begin? I used my own still life and travel photos in my creations and artworks. I thought others may like to use the photos too, so I began the Filmstrips range a few years ago. I then went on to design some paper and rubber stamps that are distributed through Stamp-It Australia. My ideas have continued to grow and expand, so I needed a new business to be the platform and consolidation of our collections. So Darkroom Door began. Why the name? I am at my creative best in the darkroom. When I go through my darkroom door, I know I enter a world that is unlike the outside. It’s dark, it’s creative, it’s magic. You just never know what magic will happen behind that door. I want you to experience that too. I want to share it with you. I want you to unlock the artist within!

And onto the artwork... although I don't do a lot of layouts these days, I have created a couple of quick ones using a few different products... here they are:

Darkroom Inspiration

Feel like a bit of blog hopping? I've found quite a few artists who have been using some Darkroom Door products in their art, so if you're looking for some more inspiration, check out these amazing artists...

Sephi uses Photobooth images in some tag art here.

Godelieve uses Full Bloom Vol 2 Rubber stamps here and Wildflower stamps here. Take a look at the rest of her blog too - she has loads of card inspiration including some other cards using Darkroom Door stamps :)

Linda uses Venetian papers and stamped keys from the Doors stamps to decorate a tin box here.

Gillian uses Doors stamps in a gorgeous arty gift tag here. I love this!

So much inspiration! I just love seeing all the different styles and ways to use the products!! If you have used any Darkroom Door products in your art, please let us know as we'd love to see them!

Also, check back tomorrow as we'll be starting a new segment on the blog called 'Darkroom Designer'. Every two weeks or so we will be featuring a designer/artist who will be showing us what they can do with some Darkroom Door goodies. If you think tomorrow will be someone exciting, then sorry, it's only me!! But we had to start somewhere! :) But I will be telling you about my art, how the idea of Darkroom Door began and a few other fun things. Oh and of course some photos on what I have created with the goodies!! So I hope you'll come back tomorrow to check it out.

Until then, enjoy the links to those fabulous artists!!

SIA Trade Show

We're back from the SIA Trade Show! Here's a couple of photos from our booth:

33150_070408_2

33158_070408 We had such a fantastic response to our products and to our booth. Everyone loved the doors we used to display the three collections, and several stores wanted to buy the doors for their own displays in their store! Great idea, huh. (we didn't sell them though! We'll need twice as many for next time!)

On the booth we did make & takes using the Full Bloom Vol 2 and Wildflower stamp sets, and I taught a workshop on the Tuesday using the Photochips, Wordstrips and Filmstrips.

It was a busy busy couple of days! Thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth, placed orders, attended the workshop and of course for all the support and encouragement! We were truly overwhelmed with the amount of support we received... thank you!

More photos from the show can be seen here. There are some fun ones - make sure you take a look!

Doors_1

(Card created with 'Doors' Rubber Stamp set.)

We have been super busy here in the studio and darkroom preparing for the SIA (Scrapbooking Industry Australia) Trade Show which starts in Sydney tomorrow. This will be our first booth ever for Darkroom Door - so it has been a LOT of preparation making all the samples and getting everything ready for the booth! Super excited though, as we're looking forward to showing all the retailers the actual products, and of course we'll have some fun make and takes on the booth, plus giveaways and my workshop on the Tuesday. So it's guaranteed to be a fun few days!!!

If you're attending the show, please drop by our booth #7!

Winners of the Photochips (from the previous post) are:
1. Lyn S
2. Teresa
3. Glee Scrap

Congrats!! Please email us your mailing address and I'll send you out some Photochips!

We'll be back in a couple of days with photos of the show. In the meantime...

Full Bloom Photochips

Here's a few quick cards that can be made with the Full Bloom Photochips, Full Bloom Wordstrips and quotes and words from the Full Bloom Vol 2 Rubber Stamps. This first card is super quick and simple. Just grab some cardstock that is the same colour (or similar) to the petals on the flower, some ribbon, and  a little Wordstrip word. This same design can be repeated with all 6 Photochip images in the packet, just alternate the colour of the cardstock according to what colour the flower is. When made as a complete set it really looks like a rainbow! But here's just one for now:
Fullbloom_1

Fullbloom_2 This card is similar, but I have inked the flower with Antique Linen Distress Ink to give it a slightly warmer tone, and have scratched the edges. The tiny tags have been stamped with the tiny words from the Full Bloom Vol 2 stamp set.

Lastly, for this card I have stamped directly onto the Photochip itself. The Photochips stamp beautifully, and can be heat set if you're using a longer drying ink. I used Archival Grape for this card.

So who wants some Photochips? Just comment here and tell us which is your favourite flower from the Full Bloom Photochips. We'll draw 3 names and will send you out a packet of Full Bloom Photochips to play with! We'll announce the winners Monday morning!
